Commonly Asked Questions
- Do you use an airbrush?
No, everything is done with an ordinary paintbrush and layers of acrylic paint on canvas.
- Is it on fabric?
Technically yes (canvas is fabric). It took me awhile to understand that some people thought that the images were somehow printed onto a special fabric. But it's just paint on canvas.
- Why does it glow?
I start out with a bright, fairly dark base color, and add many thin transparent layers of paint over this base. This allows light to enter the painting and be reflected back from the multiple layers.
- How do you get the texture?
There really isn't any texture except for the weave of the canvas. The apparency of texture comes from the subtle patterns created in paint.
- Where do the assemblage pieces come from?
I like weathered bits of metal and other found objects so I am always looking for them. I piece them together to create the assemblage figures on some of my paintings. I also sometimes add small embellished squares of wood or other small manufactured pieces to add depth and focus.
